Well, I have a firm belief in always looking for the best. So this post is going to be a good look at the best in my life rather than looking at the...well...really rather not ideal. The good news is that no matter how down in the dumps I can be, I know for a fact there is always at least one thing to be grateful for, and that's our Savior. And because of my Savior, there is always more than one thing to be happy about because he blesses me so very much. Especially when he knows I'm hurting.
SO here we go.
I have the most delightful friends on the planet. Not only did Emma and Kristin buy milk for me, they also bought frosted flakes and ice cream, which just happens to be my favorite snack/meal since the beginning of time. Also, they got me a Star Wars Pez. Now, how could I not smile at that? Also, these women somehow manage to make me die of laughter every time I'm with them. They just might be my soul mates, and I'm pretty happy about it. Also, taco parties might be the best idea this planet has ever seen.
Also, my dear sister Allie got me a big pink daisy, which you should all know by now is my favorite flower. (I like daisies in any color.) In addition to that lovely flower, she got me a chocolate orange AND the hugest version of "There was an Old Lady who Swallowed a Fly" I have ever seen. So sweet and thoughtful.
Stake conference was today as well. There was such a wonderful spirit there. The speakers talked a lot about coming to Christ through service and sacrifice. I have been trying to better at selflessly serving, so it was good to hear their words and feel Heavenly Father and Christ's love for me.
I just got back from shopping with Lauren and Cat. We went to Forever 21 and bought ugly sweaters. That was the purpose. I got a good one, that's for sure. Also, a t-shirt for five dollars and a scarf for five dollars. I am pretty happy with my purchases and look forward to wearing them.
Here's what I've learned in the past two days. Or rather, relearned.
1. If you are trying your best to live by the spirit, Heavenly Father will not let you make a mistake. In fact, He will tell you what you should do. And you will know you should do it, whether you want to or not. And that's where faith comes in. And having faith is what makes everything okay. Because when you have faith that you have Heavenly Father who truly loves you more than anyone ever could and knows exactly what you need to learn and grow into the person he knows you can be, you feel peace. Peace doesn't always take away the hurt, but it makes it bearable. It helps you know that whatever is happening is happening for a reason.
2. Heavenly Father knows what his children need, and he works through us to provide those needs. I have had so many people call or text or just do random things that are just plain out of the blue. They don't know what's going on in my life or that what they decided to do would be so meaningful...but Heavenly Father does.
3. Ice cream on frosted flakes is delicious.
Know that I know that Heavenly Father loves us beyond our comprehension. He loves us so much that he sent his Son, Jesus Christ to atone for our sins so we could all live in heaven again. Christ also suffered so he could understand our pains and comfort us. Christ loves us so much. His life was driven by his love for us and his love for his Father. As we come to know him as we serve and as we learn about him, our lives can be changed. Our hearts can be changed. Our perspectives can be changed. We become more charitable, less selfish. We grow to understand the needs of others and how we can help to meet them. We are willing to make more sacrifices for those we care about...and eventually we will be able to make sacrifices for those we don't even know. I know his plan is perfect. I know this gospel is true. I know this Church is true. I love it with all my soul because I know it has not only made me the person that I am, but helps me to see where I can grow and develop still. What a blessing, what evidence of our Heavenly Father's love!
I could keep on going for a while. But I think that's all I have to say.
And it's true, no matter how sad you are, or how dire you circumstances may seem, there is always something to be grateful for and always something to be happy about.
Also this quote I just heard on Bones: "I'm not normal. I'm extraordinary."
That just made me smile.
